Nonprofit Scorecard FAQs

Q: What is the Nonprofit Scorecard?

A: The Nonprofit Scorecard is a diagnostic tool that helps ministry leaders assess their organization's readiness and capacity for champion development across four key areas: Mission and Strategy, Leadership and Culture, Systems and Processes, and Champion Engagement. It provides a snapshot of where an organization is thriving and where there are opportunities for growth.

Q: Why is Mission Increase offering this tool?

A: We've worked with thousands of ministries over the years and have seen patterns in what helps organizations move from transactional fundraising to genuine partnership development. The Scorecard distills these insights into a practical assessment that helps leaders identify their next steps toward sustainable, relationship-based funding.

Q: How long does it take to complete?

A: Most leaders complete the assessment in 15-20 minutes. It's designed to be thoughtful but not burdensome—we want this to serve you, not add to your plate.

Q: Is this going to compare us to other ministries?

A: No. The Scorecard is not a comparison tool or competition. Every ministry has a unique context, history, and calling. The results show where your organization is on its own journey toward integrated champion development. There's no ranking or benchmark against others—just a reflection of your current practices and opportunities.

Q: What if our scores are low? Does that mean we're failing?

A: Absolutely not. Lower scores simply indicate earlier stages of development—which is completely normal and expected. Most organizations are in "Forming" or "Emerging" stages in at least some areas. The Scorecard isn't about judgment; it's about clarity. Knowing where you are helps you pray and plan for where God is calling you to grow.

Q: Our ministry is doing fine financially. Do we really need this?

A: Financial stability is wonderful, but the Scorecard looks at more than current funding levels. It examines whether your approach is sustainable long-term, whether you're building genuine partnerships versus transactional relationships, and whether your entire organization is aligned around champion development. Many thriving ministries discover through the Scorecard that they have opportunities to deepen engagement, strengthen systems, or better integrate their mission with their funding approach.

Q: Who should complete the Scorecard?

A: Ideally, the executive director or someone with organization-wide perspective on both mission and fundraising. Some organizations find it helpful to have multiple leaders complete it independently and then compare notes—that conversation itself can be valuable.

Q: What if I'm not sure how to answer a question?

A: Answer based on your best understanding of current reality, not aspirations. If you're uncertain, that itself is valuable information—it might indicate an area where clarity or communication could be strengthened. There are no trick questions; we're just trying to understand where you are today.

Q: Can we retake the assessment later?

A: Yes. Many organizations find it helpful to complete the Scorecard annually or after implementing significant changes. It can help you track progress and celebrate growth over time.
